About Us

History

G.N. Patel College of Dairy Science, Sardarkrushinagar, Gujarat. was established in the year 2008 with an objective of catering the need of technical manpower to dairy and food processing industries in the country. The college introduced B. Tech. (Dairy and Food Technology) an amalgamated course since inception. After implementation of Fifth Deans Committee recommendations of ICAR, the nomenclature of the degree was changed to B. Tech. (Dairy Technology) and implemented during 2017-18. The College was also renamed as G. N. Patel college of Dairy Technology. After transfer of the college under Kamdhenu University in 2021, the college name is further changed to G. N. Patel College of Dairy Science in 2022 to make similarity in the name of all the Dairy Science colleges under Kamdhenu University. In the last one decade the college has made multidimensional progress. The GCMMF Ltd., donated ₹ 5.0 crores for college building under Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode. Further, the government of Gujarat sanctioned ₹ 18.0 crores for the creation of excellent infrastructure facilitates for the college. Presently, this is the only dairy science college in India established under PPP mode. The ICAR review committee for accreditation during 2017 appreciated and placed on record the effort made by the university authorities for establishing college under PPP mode for financial assistance from non-government sectors.

The College comprises of 6 major departments namely, Dairy Technology, Dairy Chemistry, Dairy Microbiology, Dairy Engineering, Dairy Business Management, Dairy Plant Operations. Computer science and statistics courses are taught by experts from other faculties of the university. About 400 graduates have passed out from this college since its inception.

To be a Centre of Excellence in Dairy Technology and allied sciences, to produce highly competent and skilled manpower, and to play a committed role in the generation of new technologies through basic and applied research and carry out outreach programmes for the dissemination of these technologies and know-how for dairy farmers, entrepreneurs, etc.

  • To promote the entrepreneurship amongst technical personnel produced thereby making them job providers rather than job seekers.
