ABOUT COLLEGE
G. N. Patel College of Dairy Science is a constituent college of Kamdhenu University since April 2021. The college was established in the year 2008 with the name of Shri Galbabhai Nanjibhai Patel Dairy Science & Food Technology College under Sardarkrushinagar Dantiwada Agricultural University (SDAU), Sardarkrushinagar. For the establishment, GCMMF Ltd. has donated ₹ 5.0 crores for college building and the government of Gujarat sanctioned ₹ 18.0 crores for the creation of infrastructure facilities for the college. The major objective of the college is catering the need of technical manpower to dairy and food processing industries in the country. Initially, the college was offering B. Tech. (Dairy & Food Technology), a 4 year degree program. PG and PhD programme was started in 2016-17. In 2017-18, the degree program was changed to B. Tech. (Dairy Technology) after implementation of 5th Deans Committee recommendations and the College was also renamed as G. N. Patel College of Dairy Technology. After transfer of the college from SDAU, Sardarkrushinagar to Kamdhenu University, Gandhinagar in 2021, the college name was further changed to G. N. Patel College of Dairy Science in 2022.
Currently the college is offering B. Tech. (Dairy Technology) degree program as per 6th Deans’ committee recommendations, two year M. Tech. in the field of Dairy Technology, Dairy Microbiology, Dairy Chemistry and Dairy Engineering and Ph.D. programme in Dairy Technology. Students learn the principles of technology, chemistry, engineering, microbiology and business management to develop new and improved methods in production, processing, preservation, marketing and utilization of milk and its products. Moreover, M. Tech. & Ph. D. students conducting need based research to bring innovation in the field of Dairy Science.
B. Tech. (D.T.) students undergo one year experiential learning/ hands-on training to handle the milk properly in various commercial dairy. This training provides a platform to enhance the practical knowledge and also boost confidence level of the student which is very essential for transforming students to be an entrepreneur. Students undergo training in milk processing, product manufacturing, product testing, packaging, cleaning & maintenance aspects, account, purchase, marketing etc. In the last one decade the college has made multidimensional progress.

To be a Centre of Excellence in Dairy Science to produce highly competent and skilled manpower, and to play a committed role in the generation of new technologies through basic and applied research and to carry out outreach programmes for the dissemination of these technologies and know-how for dairy farmers, entrepreneurs, etc.
