College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry, Anand

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is an Indian government-sponsored public service program conducted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. NSS scheme was launched on Gandhiji's Centenary year in 1969 by Union Education Minister V.K.R.V. Rao. The aim of the scheme was to develop student's personality through community services. National Service Scheme was initiated at College of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry since its inception with strength of 50 volunteers. Over the years the strength has been increased to 200 volunteers for regular activities and 100 volunteers for special camp. NSS activities is compulsory prerequisite for three professional years to all the students of College of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry. At present, Dr. K.A. Sadariya is serving as Programme Officer since April 01, 2018.

The College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry, Anand had organized many NSS activities. The NSS volunteers of Veterinary College, Anand were actively participated in various NSS activities during the pandemic outbreak of corona virus (COVID-19) from their home under the guidance of NSS Programme Officer, Dean/Principal, Veterinary College, Anand and Dr. B.N. Patel, DSW, KU, Gandhinagar. Dr. P. H. Tank, Principal and Dean, Veterinary College motivated NSS volunteers and extended guidance, help and support throughout the year to bring the NSS unit at new height.

  • Participated in international World yoga day by KU, Gandhinagar on 21-6-2021 by webex online platform on 21-6-2021.
  • Dr K.A. Sadariya became Member, NSS advisory committee of Kamdhenu University, Gandhinagar since 26-8-2021.
  • Participated NSS meeting with DSW, KU and all PO of different college of Kamdhenu University on 3-9-2021.
  • Participated online Webinar on “Azadika Amrit Mahotsav- Untold Stories of Indian Independence” on 12-1-2022.

National Level Participations

  • Participated and got certificate of Commitment to adopted the integrity pledge by central vigilance commission, New Delhi on 20-12-2021.
  • Dr K.A. Sadariya and NSS volunteers participated in the 75 crore suryanamaskar challenge for 21 days organized on the auspicious occasion of the 75th anniversary of independence of India- Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav organized by ICCR in collaboration with National Yogasana Sports Federation from 1st January to 20th February 2022.
  • Dr K.A. Sadariya participated and shown solidarity for 73rd Republic day organised by Ministry of defence, Government of India on 25-1-2022.

Special Camp Activities 2019-20

A seven days NSS special camp of College of Veterinary Science and A. H., Anand was organized by Dr. K.A. Sadariya, NSS programme officer under National Service Scheme during 6-1-2020 to 12-1-2020 at Navli village of Anand district under the guidance of Dr M.N. Brahmbhatt, Dean/Principal, Veterinary College, Anand. Seventy student volunteers were selected to attend the special camp as per allotted unit of the college. The camp was inaugurated by Dr. J.B. Nayak, SRC Chairman and Dr. K.A. Sadariya, Veterinary College, Anand.

Daily in the early morning, we all start our program with prayer, NSS song, NEWS/current affairs, Din vishesh and two moral stories by NSS volunteers. Dr. Sadariya was conducted half an hour Yoga session every day in the morning and all 70 NSS volunteer actively participated. During the special camp at Navli village, various activities were carried out like awareness rally with slogan and posters in village, poultry farm vist, cattle farm visit, village cleaning/ awareness with banners on various themes, swachhta abhiyan, celebration of national youth day, Death anniversary of Lal Bahadur Shastri, Indian army day, Subhas Chandra Bose Jayanti, national girl child day, world leprosy eradication day, village survey for animal related problem and preventive approaches, various group related events, quiz and competition among groups during special camp, guest lectures from expert speakers, displaying motivational video etc. Conducted debate competitions on themes like NSS & village/society, time management, Indian youth - swami vivekanda, role of Indian army, impact of urbanisation on youth, Indian education system, evils of various addictions, beti bachao beti paghao campaign, role of youth in developing India, contribution of agriculture in Indian economy, digital India, polio vaccination and clean India campaign. During poultry farm as well as cattle farm visit, Dr. K. A. Sadariya explained brief on feeding, water supply, housing, importance of vaccination, farm yard manure management, overall management in cattle farm during field visit. He also explained few toxic plants and their health ill effects on grazing animals. He also discussed many points on poultry farm managements. Poultry farm owner express their view of economic aspect of poultry business in present situation and narrated various expenditures on chick purchase, poultry feed, daily workers, egg collection, grading and selling in the market. The interactions between farm owner and NSS volunteers were carried out and many interesting practical questions asked and discussed during field visit. Cattle farm owner explained brief on bulk milk cooler and its storage capacity, working/operating procedure, time of storage and selling this milk to Amul. Gathering information of animals and farmers as a part of survey work especially on mastitis in dairy cattle and its prevention as well as infertility awareness among cattle/buffalo owners. Two guest lectures on “management of animal health using ethano-veterinary approaches” and “Milk and its products preparation - value addition: current scenario in Gujarat/ India” were also organised during this special camp. During this camp all the day ended with two debate topic, quiz of 20 questions by NSS volunteers and feedback of whole day activities. Overall this camp was memorable to all NSS participants.

Unique Activities Conducted, If Any

The inauguration ceremony of Drug Prohibition Week (Nasabandhi prachar Saptah-2021) was organized by National Service Scheme Unit, College of Veterinary Science & A.H., KU, Anand in collaboration with Nashabandhi and abkari khatu, Anand District on date 02-10-2021, Saturday at 9:00am at Seminar Hall, Kapila Teaching Complex, Veterinary College, Anand. The programme was inaugurated by Shri. Miteshbhai Patel, Member, Anand Lok Sabha; Shri. M. Y. Daxini (IAS), District collector & Magistrate, Anand; Dr. N. H. Kelawala, Vice Chancellor, Kamdhenu University; Dr. M. N. Brahmbhatt, Principal, Vet. College, Anand; Shri. Geeta Didi, Brahma Kumari; Shri. H. G. Masani, Supt. Prohi & Exci., Anand. All the teaching, non-teaching staff, NSS volunteers and other UG and PG students of our college were participated. The program started with prayer and the Superintendent of Narcotics and Excise outlined the program to be celebrated during the prohibition Week and informed all the participants about the side effects of different addictions. Worthy guest appealed to spread the message of aspiring to be free from addiction and appealing to the NSS volunteers/students to reach out to the people at the bottom of the society as part of their social responsibility and spread the message of de-addiction. The NSS volunteers were participated in the debate competition organized on this occasion and presented their ideas on de-addiction in a beautiful way, after which the best speakers were awarded certificates. Program was well coordinated by Dr. B.B. bhanderi and Dr. V.R. Nimavat under guidance of Dr. M.N. Brahmbhatt. Dr. K.A. Sadariya, NSS Programme Officer thanked all for active and enthusiastic participation in the programme. Completed the program by taking de-addiction oath and singing the national anthem.
