Polytechnic in Animal Husbandry, Rajpur (Nava), Himmatnagar was established under Kamdhenu University on 1st August, 2011. This premier institute is the First Polytechnic in Animal Husbandry of its own kind in Gujarat having all the modern and infrastructure facilities. The institute is situated at Rajpur (Nava) village which is 6 km away from Himmatnagar-Idar bypass highway. The institute owns a beautiful building having two classrooms and four well equipped laboratories. The institute also owns a library having more than 1500 text books, many periodicals and Journals. Apart from this a well managed livestock instructional farm having cattle, buffalo, sheep and goat and a fodder form in two hectare area is also available for demonstration and hands on training to the students. The institute owns all the necessary instruments/ equipments required for agriculture purpose along with for tractors. The institute also has a beautiful garden with a play ground in its vicinity for the students.

The institute was established with the aim to prepare quality para-veterinarians to provide the support to the field veterinarians as well as to extend the scientific knowledge of animal nutrition, Livestock production and management and improve the services of artificial insemination along with primary veterinary services to the animal owners in remote villages to uplift their economical status.

PGIVER Himmatnagar

The Postgraduate Institute of Veterinary Education & Research (PGIVER) was established on 10/02/2015 with an objective to lead the pathway with excellence in education and research in veterinary science and animal husbandry. Initially, administrative work for PGIVER was started at Kamdhenu University Headquarters, Gandhinagar. Afterwards, it was shifted to Rajpur (Nava) campus, Himmatnagar from 01/04/2018. At present, PGIVER is involved in activities such as clinical services, education, training, research, extension, campus development etc. The station typically focuses on existing issues/challenges faced by livestock and pet owners of rural and urban areas of Sabarkantha district. The PGIVER also governs clinical activities in a newly established Veterinary Hospital which was inaugurated in December-2019. More than 5000 clinical cases of different animals, birds and reptiles have been treated at this hospital and more than 13000+ biomaterials have been examined by the technical experts. At present, PGIVER provides facilities for education and research for the award of Master of Veterinary Science (M.V.Sc.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in 07 subjects, viz., Veterinary Surgery & Radiology; Veterinary Clinical Medicine, Ethics & Jurisprudence; Veterinary Gynaecology & Obstetrics; Veterinary Microbiology; Livestock Production & Management; Animal Genetics & Breeding and Veterinary Extension Education.

• To generate a common platform for standardizing, implementing and conducting PG education and research throughout the state.
• To create a state-of-the-art facility for conducting PG education in veterinary science and animal husbandry courses.
• Establishment of veterinary hospital with high tech diagnostic facilities
• To run mobile ambulatory clinics in nearby villages

Objectives

• To provide facilities for PG teaching and PG research for admitted students
• To impart skill training for veterinary professionals, internees of veterinary degree and polytechnic students.
• To conduct ancillary research studies on veterinary and animal science field.
• To provide health care services to livestock owners, pet owners, government departments etc.
