Establishment

The College of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry, Kamdhenu University, Bhuj was established in the year 2022 with the funding received from the Government of Gujarat (vide Resolution No. KPC/13/2022/22/193/P1 dated 22nd September, 2022 of Department of Agriculture and Cooperation, Ministry of Agriculture & Co-operation, Govt. of Gujarat, Gandhinagar). It has started functioning through Kamdhenu University, Gandhinagar since 29th November, 2022. At present, the College of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry, Kamdhenu University, Bhuj has started its work from the campus located at Bhuj opposite to 36 Quarters, Khavda Chowk, Bhuj-370001 in Kutch district of Gujarat state.

Location

Presently, the College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry, Bhuj is located opposite to 36 Quarters, Khavda Chowk, Bhuj-370001 in Kutch district of Gujarat state. Bhuj city is located at distance of 355 km away from Gandhinagar and 335 km from Ahmedabad, cities of Gujarat state. Bhuj city is well connected by rail, road, and air ways. Bhuj city is the administrative headquarter of Kutch district and acts as a gateway to the vast and arid region of Kutch. The Kutch district is one of the largest districts in all over India, covering approximately 45,654 square kilometers of area. The Kutch area is surrounded by the Gulf of Kutch and the Arabian Sea in its South and West directions, whereas the vast seasonal salt wetlands of the Great and Little Rann of Kutch are in its North and East directions. Rann of Kutch is famous for the annual Rann Utsav Festival. On the eastern side, Kutch is neighbored by other districts of Gujarat state i.e., Patan, Banaskantha and Morbi. Kutch area has a distinctive landscape with salt flats, coastal areas, and arid regions with the presence of a variety of flora and fauna. The Kutch has a high cultural heritage, diversified communities, distinguishing the Kutchi language and culture.

  • To create qualitative, specialized and skill based technical personnel to cater effective Veterinary healthcare and animal husbandry services to animals as per the needs of livestock farmers.
  • To inculcate Veterinary science graduates for livestock and its related entrepreneurship.

  • Functioning as the National Referral Centre in the regional geographical area for livestock disease diagnostics and therapeutics.

Mandate

  • Fulfillment of requirement of veterinarians for the state animal husbandry department.
  • Upgrading productivity of animal husbandry and livestock health.
  • Livestock research and technology transfer at grass root level.
  • Enrichment of skills and knowledge of veterinarians of Govt., dairy co-operatives, and stakeholders.

Objectives

  • To impart the professional training leading to award of graduate and post-graduate degrees in veterinary science education.
  • To develop and transfer the veterinary and animal husbandry technology for holistic improvement of livestock wealth under the field conditions.
  • To ameliorate the socio-economic status of livestock owners.
  • To offer consultancy services for subject matter expertise.
  • To develop and provide world class diagnostic and advisory services for livestock health improvement.
